Pedestrian Accidents in Massachusetts

Pedestrian accidents remain a significant safety concern across Massachusetts. With bustling towns, busy intersections, and commuter traffic, crashes between vehicles and

pedestrians are unfortunately common. Even when pedestrians use crosswalks and follow traffic signals, the simple lack of protection makes them especially vulnerable to severe injuries in collisions.

One of the most frequent causes of pedestrian crashes is driver inattention. A driver glancing at a phone, adjusting the radio, or even focusing too long on roadside activity can fail to see someone crossing the street. Speeding also plays a major role. Higher speeds reduce a driver’s reaction time and increase the severity of impact when a collision does occur. Failing to yield at intersections or ignoring crosswalks also puts pedestrians at risk.

The injuries sustained in pedestrian crashes are often life-altering. Victims may suffer broken bones, internal bleeding, or head trauma. Recovery can involve extended hospital stays, surgeries, and months of rehabilitation. Beyond the physical pain, victims may face emotional challenges, including anxiety about walking near traffic again. Medical bills, time away from work, and ongoing therapy can also create a heavy financial strain for families.

Because of these risks, it’s important for pedestrians to remain alert and for drivers to use extra caution in areas where foot traffic is common. Still, even the most careful pedestrian can’t always prevent a negligent driver from causing harm. This is where legal guidance can make a difference.

A Bedford pedestrian accident attorney can help victims understand their rights and fight for compensation. This may include coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and the costs of future care. By investigating the scene, gathering witness statements, and reviewing police reports, an attorney can build a strong case to hold the responsible party accountable.
