Block Island, RI (July 31, 2025) – Authorities have identified the fatal victim of yesterday's tragic Rhode Island plane crash as Montgomery County Legislator Daniel Wilson.

The plane departed Albany International Airport Tuesday morning before crashing while attempting to land in Rhode Island, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Preliminary information indicates the crash happened during the landing phase.

Local police told WJAR NewsChannel 13 in Providence that the pilot appeared to overshoot the runway on final approach and ran out of space to stop. Investigators confirmed this was the plane’s third attempt at landing.

Daniel Wilson served as president of the board at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum. A source from the museum confirmed the pilot was Karl Doll of Mechanicville, Wilson’s best friend.

Doll and the other passenger, who is from Clifton Park, sustained injuries and were flown to a hospital in Rhode Island.

Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Daniel Wilson during this difficult time.

Plane Crashes in Rhode Island: Risks and Legal Considerations

While rare, plane crashes in Rhode Island can lead to devastating consequences. When small private aircraft encounter difficulties during critical moments—such as landing or takeoff—the results can be fatal or cause serious injuries. Rhode Island, with its busy

ree

regional airports and challenging weather conditions, has seen a few such incidents in recent years.

Landing attempts are among the most hazardous phases of flight. Factors like weather, pilot experience, mechanical issues, and runway length affect safety. In this recent crash, investigators pointed to multiple landing attempts and overshooting the runway as key factors. These situations can leave pilots little room to correct errors, increasing the risk of crashes.

Victims of plane crashes often face catastrophic injuries or loss of life. Survivors might endure broken bones, burns, traumatic brain injuries, and psychological trauma. Recovery from these injuries requires extensive medical care and emotional support.

If negligence—whether pilot error, mechanical failure, or inadequate airport safety—played a role in a crash, victims and families have the right to seek compensation. A personal injury lawyer experienced in aviation cases can help navigate complex federal and state laws, gather evidence, and build a strong claim.

Claims might cover medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and more. Aviation accidents involve multiple parties, including manufacturers, maintenance crews, and operators, making legal guidance critical.
