Boston, MA (June 19, 2025) – A pedestrian was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle on Sunday in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.

The collision occurred June 15 near the Forest Hills MBTA Station, along the Arborway. Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene shortly after the incident unfolded and found the pedestrian in critical condition. Boston EMS provided on-site care before transporting the victim to a local hospital. As of now, there have been no updates on the individual’s condition.

Authorities closed the westbound side of Arborway between Washington Street and the Center Street Rotary to allow officers to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. It remains unclear whether the driver involved will face any charges, and the investigation is ongoing.

We hope the injured individual recovers fully and quickly.

Pedestrian Accidents in Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, pedestrian injuries remain a significant concern, especially in urban areas like Boston. According to state data, hundreds of pedestrians are seriously hurt each year, with many of these incidents occurring in crosswalks or near public transportation hubs. These collisions often result in critical injuries due to the vulnerability of those on foot.

When a pedestrian is hit, a number of crucial factors may be considered during the investigation:

  • Driver Attention and Behavior: Authorities will examine whether the driver was distracted, speeding, or under the influence. Any lapse in attention can be catastrophic when pedestrians are nearby.

  • Lighting and Visibility Conditions: Poor visibility, especially at night or during heavy weather, can increase the risk of pedestrian accidents. Investigators often assess whether lighting or obstructions played a role.

  • Pedestrian Right-of-Way: Investigators determine whether the pedestrian had the right-of-way, especially at intersections or near marked crosswalks. Violating these laws can lead to serious consequences for drivers.

  • Vehicle Speed at the Time of Impact: The severity of a pedestrian’s injuries is closely tied to how fast the vehicle was going. Higher speeds significantly raise the risk of life-threatening harm.

  • Proximity to Transit Stations: Areas near MBTA stations and bus stops can see high foot traffic. Safety measures and enforcement in these areas are especially critical for reducing accidents.
