Boston, MA (August 7, 2025) – A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by an electric bicycle on Wednesday, August 6, near Copley Sq.

According to Boston Police, officers responded to the crash just after 11:15 a.m. at the busy intersection of Huntington Ave and Dartmouth St. The rider, operating a Velotric class 2 e-bike, collided with a pedestrian in the crosswalk near the Boston Public Library.

Emergency crews found the victim unconscious and suffering from a serious head injury. EMS rushed the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital, where they remained in critical condition as of Thursday morning.

The e-bike rider stayed at the scene following the incident. Police seized the bicycle as evidence and confirmed that no arrests had been made as of Thursday. The Boston Police Fatal Collision Investigation Team is handling the case.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or the cyclist. The area where the crash happened is known for high pedestrian and vehicle traffic, with previous injury-related crashes reported at the same intersection.

The investigation remains active. We extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery to the injured individual.

Pedestrian Accidents in Boston

Pedestrian accidents are a growing concern in Boston, particularly in high-traffic areas like Copley Sq and the Back Bay neighborhood. As more residents and visitors rely on walking

ree

And biking for daily travel, busy intersections have become hot spots for serious injury collisions.

Many pedestrian crashes in Massachusetts occur when drivers or cyclists fail to yield the right-of-way or ignore traffic signals. In the case of electric bikes, their increased speed and weight can cause severe injuries when a collision occurs. While these bikes are convenient for deliveries and quick travel, they must be operated with caution—especially in congested areas.

Boston has seen a rise in crashes involving e-bikes in recent years. Unlike traditional bicycles, class 2 e-bikes can travel up to 20 mph without pedaling, making them especially dangerous in pedestrian-heavy areas. When collisions occur, victims may suffer traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, or long-term physical and emotional harm.

For those injured in pedestrian or e-bike accidents, the aftermath can feel overwhelming. Medical bills, time off work, and ongoing care needs can quickly add up. Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and more. But navigating insurance claims or pursuing legal action can be challenging without help.
