Bristol, RI (June 18, 2025) – A fire broke out inside an apartment building in Bristol early Sunday morning, leaving one person injured and prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
During the early morning hours of June 15, the Bristol Fire Department received an urgent call regarding a structure fire inside a residential apartment. Firefighters rushed to the scene, where smoke and flames were visible upon arrival. Bristol Police were already in the process of evacuating residents from the building to ensure their safety.
Crews immediately extended hoses into the structure and worked to bring the fire under control. It took time and effort, but they managed to contain the flames and prevent further spread within the building. Firefighters remained on the scene to address hot spots and confirm the fire had been completely extinguished.
Emergency medical services assisted one injured individual on site before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further care. No additional injuries were reported. The severity of the victim’s injuries has not yet been made public. The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation into what caused the blaze. At this time, no foul play is suspected, but officials are continuing to gather evidence and witness statements.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Apartment Fires in Rhode Island

Fires are a major cause of property damage and personal injury in Rhode Island. According to recent data, residential structure fires represent a significant portion of incidents, with thousands of fire-related emergencies each year. These accidents can lead to serious burns, smoke inhalation, and trauma from evacuation. Many incidents stem from preventable causes such as faulty wiring, unattended cooking, or heating equipment failures. When it comes to understanding apartment fires, here are a few critical things to know:
Electrical System Failures: Many apartment fires originate from worn or outdated electrical wiring. Overloaded circuits, old outlets, and appliances that short out can all ignite fires. Property managers and landlords have a responsibility to keep electrical systems updated and inspected.
Cooking-Related Accidents: Unattended cooking is one of the top causes of residential fires. Grease fires or stovetops left on by distracted residents can quickly escalate. Fire safety education and working smoke alarms are vital in helping prevent these incidents.
Lack of Fire Safety Equipment: Buildings without functioning smoke detectors or fire extinguishers are more vulnerable to fire injuries. Residents and landlords alike must ensure all safety devices are maintained and checked regularly.
Blocked or Locked Exits: During emergencies, having a clear path to exit can save lives. Cluttered hallways, locked doors, or confusing layouts make evacuations more dangerous. Clear signage and proper maintenance are key to safe building design.
