Pedestrian Accidents in Hadley and Western Massachusetts

Pedestrian crashes, like the one that took place Sunday night in Hadley, are a serious issue across Massachusetts. When vehicles strike people on foot, the outcome is often deadly—

especially on major roads like Route 9, where cars travel at higher speeds and visibility may be low at night.

In rural and suburban communities such as Hadley, crosswalks and pedestrian signals are often limited. This puts older residents in particular at risk. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), elderly pedestrians face a higher likelihood of fatal injury in car crashes. Slower walking speeds, reduced reaction times, and limited street lighting can all contribute to these tragic outcomes.

In cases where a pedestrian is hit by multiple vehicles, the force of impact is often multiplied, and victims rarely have time to react or move to safety. Investigators will work to determine whether speed, distraction, or failure to yield played a role.

Families who lose loved ones in pedestrian crashes may be eligible for a wrongful death claim. A personal injury attorney can help uncover what happened and whether negligence was involved. Legal claims can provide compensation for funeral costs, lost income, and the emotional loss suffered by surviving family members.

Even in tragic situations, having legal support can help families find answers and a sense of justice. Attorneys gather evidence, consult experts, and work with law enforcement to get a full picture of the event. Most importantly, they guide grieving families through every step of the legal process with compassion.
