Johnston, RI (June 15, 2025) – Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash that occurred just before 3 p.m. on June 15 along Greenville Avenue in Johnston. The crash involved a rollover that left three people injured and caused significant damage to both vehicles.

Responding officers arrived to find one of the vehicles, driven by a 56-year-old man, overturned on its driver’s side in the eastbound lane. Police reported that the crash happened when his vehicle, traveling east, collided with another headed west. The impact caused the older man's vehicle to roll over.

The second vehicle was operated by a 35-year-old woman, who had a 20-year-old male passenger. Both sustained minor injuries and were evaluated at the scene. All three victims were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical care. Authorities confirmed that the man who was driving the overturned vehicle suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators remained at the scene for an extended period as they worked to determine the full circumstances that led to the collision. Officials have not released the identities of those involved as the investigation remains active.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Rhode Island

Motor vehicle accidents in Rhode Island are a regular occurrence, with many resulting in injuries that impact lives long after the scene has been cleared. According to recent data, hundreds of serious crashes take place each year across the state. These incidents often lead to hospitalization, long-term therapy, and significant financial stress. Being informed and cautious on the road is a shared responsibility among all drivers. One topic that deserves more attention when it comes to car crashes is how vehicle design affects injury outcomes:

  • Vehicle Stability and Rollover Risk: Some vehicles, especially SUVs and trucks, have a higher center of gravity, increasing the chance of rollovers during a collision. Manufacturers now implement electronic stability control and reinforced roof structures, but older vehicles may lack these features. Understanding your vehicle’s risks can influence safe driving behavior and even future purchasing decisions.

  • Seatbelt Effectiveness: Seatbelts remain the most effective safety tool during an accident. They significantly reduce the risk of fatal injury by keeping occupants from being ejected and distributing crash forces over the body’s stronger parts. Even in rollover crashes, a properly worn seatbelt can make the difference between minor injuries and serious trauma.

  • Crash Energy Management: Modern cars are designed with crumple zones that absorb collision energy. These zones help protect passengers by reducing the force transmitted to the cabin. However, damage to these areas can mask the seriousness of the crash to onlookers.

  • Airbag Deployment Timing: Airbags deploy in milliseconds and are tailored to various crash scenarios. If the sensors do not activate at the right moment or the occupants are out of position, the airbag might not offer optimal protection. Regular maintenance and proper seating position are essential to their effectiveness.

  • Post-Collision Vehicle Fires: Though rare, some crashes may lead to fires due to ruptured fuel lines or electrical faults. Vehicles are now equipped with safety features to minimize this risk, but fast action from first responders is still critical.
