Lowell, MA (August 21, 2025) – Authorities are searching for a man who injured a state trooper during a police chase on Wednesday afternoon, August 20.

The pursuit began around 3:30 p.m. in Lawrence when a vehicle fled a traffic stop. A state trooper spotted the car shortly after on Route 495. The driver began driving erratically in an effort to evade police. Officials say the fleeing car hit multiple vehicles before heading toward Lowell.

When officers caught up to the car in Lowell, the driver reversed and crashed into the front of a trooper’s cruiser before fleeing on foot. Troopers focused their search along Lincoln St, where witnesses reported the suspect cutting through several yards. One resident said her father saw the man run past their home after leaving a neighbor’s yard.

The trooper inside the cruiser sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at a local hospital. No arrests have been made, and investigators continue to search for the suspect.

Our thoughts are with the injured trooper as they recover from this incident.

Police Chase Accidents in Massachusetts

High-speed police chases can quickly turn dangerous for both law enforcement and civilians. In Massachusetts, such chases often occur on busy highways and city streets, increasing the risk of serious injuries. Drivers who flee from police may engage in erratic or

ree

reckless behavior, leading to collisions with other vehicles or officers. Even short chases can result in significant property damage, injuries, or, in severe cases, fatalities.

Troopers and first responders face unique risks during these pursuits. Injuries can range from bruises and fractures to more serious trauma if a vehicle collision occurs. For civilians caught in the path of a fleeing suspect, the consequences can be life-altering.

Massachusetts law prioritizes public safety, and drivers who attempt to evade police can face criminal charges, civil liability, and responsibility for any injuries caused. Understanding your legal options after being injured in a crash involving a police chase is important.

Victims may be eligible to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, or other damages. Consulting a car accident lawyer early helps ensure your rights are protected and evidence is properly documented. Attorneys can also assist in navigating insurance claims and negotiating settlements.
