North Andover, MA (August 16, 2025) – On August 15, emergency crews in North Andover responded to a major motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Turnpike Street and Johnson Street. The crash, reported around 2:45 p.m., involved two vehicles. One of the cars left the roadway, broke through a fence, and struck a tree. Firefighters quickly arrived and discovered at least one victim trapped inside a vehicle.
By 2:56 p.m., Boston MedFlight was requested to Merrimack College to airlift an adult female who had sustained traumatic injuries. North Andover Fire Ambulance 2 transported the woman to the designated landing zone. However, due to standing water at the original site, the helicopter was redirected to Lawrence General Hospital. At 3:12 p.m., the ambulance intercepted with Lawrence General paramedics before continuing to the hospital with the patient on board.
Police temporarily closed sections of the road while crews worked to manage the scene and assist the injured. Reports confirm that PrideStar EMS was initially requested but later canceled once Boston MedFlight became involved. The condition of the female victim has not yet been released, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
We hope the injured woman in this accident makes a full and speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in Massachusetts

Every year in Massachusetts, thousands of car accidents occur, many resulting in serious injuries. These incidents often involve a combination of high traffic volumes, distracted driving, and roadway hazards. Victims can face long recoveries, high medical expenses, and disruptions to their daily lives. Understanding these challenges is crucial in working toward safer roads and better support for those impacted by collisions.
Here are some common causes of serious car accidents in Massachusetts:
Distracted Driving: Phone use, eating, and multitasking take a driver’s attention away from the road. Even a few seconds of distraction can lead to a severe collision.
Speeding: Higher speeds increase the force of impact, making injuries more severe and reducing the time available to react. Excessive speed remains a leading factor in serious crashes.
Weather Conditions: Rain, snow, and icy conditions create dangerous roadways. Poor weather makes it harder to stop quickly and increases the risk of vehicles sliding off the road.
Driver Fatigue: Tired drivers can be as impaired as those driving under the influence. Fatigue slows reaction times and increases the likelihood of missing hazards.
Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drugs continue to contribute to a significant number of car accidents each year. Impaired judgment and slowed reflexes put everyone on the road at risk.
