Pawtucket, RI (August 9, 2025) – A woman was taken to the hospital Friday morning following a collision between a dump truck and a black sedan at the intersection of Mendon Avenue and Benefit Street. The crash occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on August 8. Pawtucket Battalion Fire Chief David Cairrao reported that the driver of the sedan was removed from her vehicle by emergency crews and transported for treatment of injuries.

The dump truck operator did not require medical attention and refused transport. The impact of the collision caused a utility pole to snap in half, bringing wires down onto the street. Rhode Island Energy crews responded to repair the damage, while police closed off the area to protect pedestrians and drivers from hazards.

Nearby businesses were also affected. A local breakfast restaurant had to close for about two hours while the scene was active. The owner shared that his wife attempted to assist the injured woman before first responders arrived, and other bystanders also stepped in to help.

We hope the woman injured in this crash makes a smooth and swift recovery.

Car Accidents in Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, motor vehicle accidents are a regular occurrence, with many resulting in injuries that require hospitalization. State data shows that collisions are often caused by distracted driving, speeding, or failure to yield. Even when crashes happen at lower speeds, the damage can still lead to significant medical care needs and property loss. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert and follow all traffic laws to reduce the risk of injury. Here are some important factors that often contribute to collisions:

  • Distracted Driving: Cell phone use, eating, or other activities that take attention away from the road can lead to serious crashes. Even a few seconds of inattention can have severe consequences.

  • Failure to Yield: Intersections are high-risk areas where drivers may misjudge distances or overlook oncoming traffic, leading to dangerous collisions.

  • Speeding: Exceeding posted limits reduces the time a driver has to react and increases the severity of any resulting impact.

  • Roadway Conditions: Potholes, debris, or poorly marked lanes can contribute to drivers losing control and colliding with other vehicles.

If you or someone close to you has been injured in a vehicle collision, speaking with a trusted personal injury attorney can help protect your rights and ensure you pursue fair compensation.
