Providence, RI (June 21, 2025) – Late Thursday night, June 19, a deadly crash involving a dirt bike unfolded at the intersection of Westminster Street and Dexter Street, near Dexter Training Ground Park in Providence. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 11 p.m. following reports of a vehicle and motorcycle collision.
According to police, the vehicle involved had pinned the dirt bike partially underneath it. Witnesses said the dirt bike rider, a man in his twenties, was found lying under the motorcycle. Emergency crews rushed to aid the victim and performed chest compressions on-site before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Providence police are continuing their investigation, including looking into whether another vehicle may have contributed to the accident.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this crash.
Motorcycle Accidents in Rhode Island

Motorcycle crashes are a serious concern in Rhode Island, where riders face heightened risks compared to other motorists. These accidents often result in severe or fatal injuries, particularly when protective gear is not worn or when riders face hazards from vehicles that may not see them. Even though motorcycles account for a small percentage of registered vehicles, their involvement in fatal crashes is disproportionately high. Motorcycle crashes bring with them unique legal and medical challenges. Here are some key factors every rider should understand:
Visibility Issues: Motorcycles are smaller and less visible to other drivers, especially at night or during poor weather. Many accidents occur when other drivers fail to see a rider before turning or merging.
Road Conditions Matter: Potholes, loose gravel, and uneven surfaces pose greater risks to motorcycles. What might be a minor bump for a car can be a serious hazard for a rider.
Protective Gear: Helmets and proper riding apparel reduce the risk of serious injury. Without a helmet, the risk of a fatal head injury increases significantly.
Speed and Agility: While motorcycles are fast and maneuverable, higher speeds reduce reaction time and increase injury severity during a crash.
Shared Road Responsibility: Both riders and drivers must follow traffic laws and respect each other's presence on the road. Many accidents can be avoided with mutual awareness.
