Springfield, MA (September 14, 2025) – Five people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision on Saturday, September 13, near Chestnut Street in Springfield. The Springfield Police Department confirmed that several vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred shortly after 1:24 p.m.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and found multiple victims inside damaged vehicles. Four people traveling together in one car and another individual from a separate vehicle sustained injuries in the impact. Paramedics treated the victims on site before transporting them to Baystate Hospital for further medical care. Authorities have not yet released information about the severity of their injuries.

The collision blocked the intersection and scattered debris across the roadway, creating dangerous conditions for other drivers. Firefighters and police worked together to stabilize the injured, remove wreckage, and secure the area. Traffic backed up for hours as emergency crews cleared the site and reopened the roadway.

Investigators from the Springfield Police Department remained at the scene into the afternoon, collecting evidence, inspecting vehicle damage, and interviewing witnesses. Officials continue to review roadway conditions and driver actions to determine what caused the multi-vehicle crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Our hearts go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time. We wish them a full and swift recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Massachusetts

ree

Multi-vehicle crashes are among the most dangerous collisions on Massachusetts roads. Unlike two-car accidents, these incidents often involve several vehicles in a chain reaction, with each impact increasing the likelihood of serious injuries. In Springfield and other urban areas, heavy traffic and crowded intersections make these types of accidents more common.

Victims of multi-vehicle accidents often suffer life-changing injuries, including broken bones, spinal cord damage, and traumatic brain injuries. These conditions typically require long recovery periods, extensive rehabilitation, and costly ongoing medical treatment.

The financial and emotional toll of a multi-vehicle accident can be overwhelming. Families may face mounting hospital bills, lost income, and the daily stress of supporting a loved one’s recovery. When several drivers are involved, determining liability becomes especially complicated. Insurance companies may dispute responsibility or delay claims, leaving victims without the resources they urgently need.

This is why working with a car accident lawyer is so important. A skilled attorney can thoroughly investigate the crash, gather evidence, and identify all responsible parties. They can also negotiate directly with insurance companies and fight to secure full compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation, and pain and suffering.
