West Greenwich, RI (August 12, 2025) – A man from East Greenwich was arrested Monday night, August 11, after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash on I-95 that left at least one person injured.

Rhode Island State Police reported that the crash occurred earlier in the evening in West Greenwich. Troopers say 26-year-old Tyler Dees was involved in the collision and left the scene before officers arrived. Authorities later located Dees on Hopkins Hill Rd in West Greenwich.

Police arrested Dees shortly before 9:30 p.m. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury, obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, and reckless driving.

According to police, Dees was taken to the State Police Hope Valley Barracks, where he was processed and held overnight as a bail violator. He appeared in Third Division District Court on Tuesday morning for arraignment.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains active. We extend our sincere wishes for recovery to those injured in this incident.

Hit-and-Run Accidents in West Greenwich

Hit-and-run accidents pose a serious danger to motorists and pedestrians in West Greenwich and across Rhode Island. When a driver leaves the scene, it can delay emergency response, worsen injuries, and make it harder for victims to seek justice.

Along major routes like I-95, high speeds and heavy traffic can lead to severe crashes. In

many cases, drivers flee because they fear arrest for intoxication, outstanding warrants, or other violations. Others may panic and make a split-second decision to leave, not realizing the legal and moral consequences.

Victims of hit-and-run accidents often suffer injuries ranging from whiplash and broken bones to traumatic brain injuries and internal bleeding. Beyond the physical harm, they may face significant financial burdens due to medical bills, lost wages, and vehicle repairs.

Rhode Island law requires drivers to remain at the scene and render aid when someone is hurt. Failing to do so can result in felony charges, substantial fines, license suspension, and possible prison time. From a civil standpoint, victims may still recover compensation through the at-fault driver’s insurance or their own uninsured motorist coverage if the driver is not identified.

An experienced Rhode Island personal injury attorney can help hit-and-run victims navigate these complex cases. Attorneys work to identify the responsible party, secure medical evidence, and fight for full and fair compensation. Acting quickly is crucial to preserving evidence and protecting your rights.
